ARCHITECTURE

DATUM is organized as a mechanical system where each function has a defined role. Reference, geometry, drive and measurement are separated so that each one can perform its task without ambiguously redefining the others.

Functional division

DATUM assigns reference, geometry, drive and measurement to distinct functional roles. This diagram describes those roles; it does not describe the structural force path.

Common datum

The granite base is not used as decorative mass. It is intended to establish the common datum of the system. Platter bearing and tonearm are organized relative to that shared structural reference rather than across loosely related supports.

Separated drive

The motor is intentionally kept outside the geometric reference system. Its role is to provide rotational energy, not to become part of the frame that defines the mechanical reading relationship.

This separation is intended to keep actuation outside the structure that establishes platter and tonearm geometry.

Defined force paths

The architecture is designed to give structural loads and support reactions defined paths through the system. The objective is not indiscriminate isolation, but a legible relationship between functional nodes, the three-contact support condition and the reference plane.

Resulting condition

The design intent is to place the cartridge within a system whose geometry is referenced structurally and whose drive does not define that reference.
